Madonna del Monte Island Clean-up

On Saturday 28 August, we were finally able to clean up Madonna del Monte island in collaboration with VERITAS: an association providing hydraulic and environmental services throughout the eastern side of Italy’s Veneto region. The site of our clean-up was a strip of land near Mazzorbo, Burano, with an ancient past, that the incivility of our fellow citizens has not spared. Everything collected and carried out during our clean-up was duly documented and archived through the dedicated MAELSTROM app – MArinE Litter SusTainable RemOval and Management Project, to support our clean-up and monitoring of the marine litter we found on the island.

Finally, a heartfelt thanks go to all the volunteers who participated and removed 150 kg of waste (including paint and resulting material) that we delivered to the waste management authority of Venice, VERITAS. Let’s restore dignity to the cultural and natural heritage of our lagoon territory and the smaller islands, each of us, by doing our part in preventing and denouncing such uncivilized and illegal practices!
